Chilean long steel producer Aceros Aza announced the inauguration of a solar power plant in the Chilean city of Tiltil.
The power plant consists of 106 double-faced solar panels, with a total power capacity of 55 kw, sufficient to meet all the energy requirements of the mill, according to CEO Matias Contreras Uribe.
Uribe added that the new plant will be able to supply up to 20 percent of its production to the national grid, as it is expected to produce 90,000 kWh annually. The plant has a steel production capacity of 520,000 mt per year, including rebar, wire rod and small beams.
When operating at full capacity, the new plant will be able to reduce by 45,000 kg per year the volume of CO2 emissions, when compared to the Aceros Aza’s previous operational scheme. Aceros Aza has plans to reduce further its emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
