US domestic standard pipe prices start to inch upward

The most commonly reported spot market price transaction range for US domestic Grade A ERW BPE standard pipe has firmed by approximately $2.00 cwt. ($44/mt or $40/nt) since our last report a week ago, which brings the current average ex-Midwest mill spot market transaction price to $42.50 cwt. ($937/mt or $850/nt).

Sources close to SteelOrbis attribute the uptick in spot market prices to increased input costs.

“Scrap prices are up again this month and hot rolled coil prices don’t show any signs of slowing down,” one Midwest-based source said, adding that if US HRC spot market prices continue to firm, that standard pipe prices could see additional adjustments.”
