How high will US HSS spot market prices go?

The most commonly reported spot price transaction range for US domestic hollow structural sections (HSS) tubing has continued to firm since our last report two weeks ago.  Current spot market prices are now trending in the approximate range of $43-$44 cwt.  ($948-$970/mt or $860-$880/nt), ex-Midwest mill, which reflects a $3.00 cwt. ($66/mt or $60/nt) uptick from price points seen in mid-May.

“The [HSS] tube mills are fully implementing the last round of price increases,” one source said, adding that there are already rumors that another price increase announcement could be just around the corner.|

“The rumor is that there will be another $40/nt price increase that’s rolled out next week, but it’s hard to know for sure. It’s all speculation at this point,” another source said.  “Hot rolled [coil] prices keep going up and the tube mills are continuing to pass their increased costs onto customers.”
