Chinese steel pipe export offer prices move sideways

During the week ending January 30, average Chinese steel pipe export offer prices have moved on a stable trend. At present, export offers for API 5L seamless pipe given by Chinese suppliers are in the range of $620-710/mt FOB, while export offers for API 5L welded pipe given by Chinese suppliers are at $520-550/mt FOB.

Due to the approaching Chinese New Year holiday (February 2-10), participants in the steel pipe market in China have mostly left the market ahead of the holiday, and this has contributed to the stable trend of steel pipe export prices from China. Based on experience from previous years, steel pipe export prices from China will likely move up after the holiday, but will later soften again since demand may not improve until later. It is thought that steel pipe export prices from China will again move sideways in the coming week.
