Atlas Tube sent a letter to customers Tuesday indicating that it is increasing the price on hollow structural section (HSS) products effective with all new orders received after 8am CST on December 6, 2011.

Prices will increase by a minimum of $2.50 cwt. ($55/mt or $50/nt) for all HSS shapes up through 12" sq (square and equivalent rectangles) and all HSS rounds up through 20" OD.

All orders currently on Atlas' books will be price protected for shipments through January 7, 2012, and this increase will apply to all unconfirmed quotes and contracts.

Other HSS mills, including Southland Tube, Leavitt Tube and Independence Tube made similar increase announcements on Tuesday and other mills are expected to quickly follow as well.
