On October 11, SteelOrbis reported domestic silicon metal prices at $2,755-2,840/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh. Prices increased after the DOC announced affirmative preliminary determinations in the antidumping duty (AD) investigations on silicon metals from three countries. According to sources, the spot market price is trending on the top side of the previously reported range at $2,800-2,840 in-warehouse Pittsburgh, an increase of $45/mt from the bottom of the previous range.

With 2018 contract prices reportedly increasing to a higher range of $2,870-2,975/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh, the future anticipations are projecting an increase in spot market prices. Although, a source noted, “In my opinion, prices are unlikely to break $3,000/mt in-warehouse Pittsburgh as the higher prices will inevitably attract new sourcing relationships or motivate different buyer solutions.”
