The recent bad weather conditions in China, Australia and South Africa, which have led to shortage of energy and resulting problems in both production and deliveries, are pushing SiMn prices into an uptrend.
It is heard that new offer levels for Ukrainian origin (average) 70-71 percent FeSiMn are expected to be around $2,200-2,300/mt CFR for March deliveries to the Turkish market.
The increase trends are not limited only to SiMn prices. Price rises, varying in extent due to force majeure and production cuts, are also observed in other ferroalloys and steelmaking raw materials.
It is indicated that the prices for China origin high alloy FeMn are in a range of $2,100-2,200/mt FOB, while the prices for 75 percent FeSi stand in a range of $1,200-1,250/mt FOB. Meanwhile, the price level from China for 65 percent FeSiMn is indicated at around $1,950-2,050/mt FOB.
A serious increase is also being registered in the prices for metcoke and coking coal, other steelmaking raw materials, due to the significant shortage of supplies. It is reported that metcoke prices in the spot market stand at the level of $550/mt FOB, whereas coking coal prices have almost reached the level of $350/mt FOB.
