During the week ending April 17, local coke prices in China have remained stable compared to April 10, but the market mood is still cautiously optimistic and market sources are still waiting for a new round of price increases soon.
First-grade coke prices in Tangshan are at RMB 1,655/mt ($241.3/mt) ex-warehouse, remaining stable compared to April 10, according to SteelOrbis’ data.

During the given week, coke prices in the Chinese domestic market have moved sideways amid relatively low inventories. Downstream, steelmakers’ capacity utilization rates have been at high levels, and so they have been seeking to conclude purchases of coke. Coking coal prices have edged up, bolstering coke prices to a certain degree. Another round of rises in coke prices is expected to be implemented next week.
On April 17, offer prices of CSR65 coke in the export market are at $245-250/mt FOB, adding $3-7/mt compared to April 10.
As of April 17, coking coal futures at Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) are standing at RMB 1,226/mt ($179/mt), increasing by RMB 23/mt ($3.4/mt) or 1.9 percent since April 10, while decreasing by 0.57 percent compared to the previous trading day, April 16. Meanwhile, coke futures prices at Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) are standing at RMB 1,695/mt ($247/mt), increasing by RMB 55/mt ($8.0/mt) or 3.4 percent since April 10, while decreasing by 0.15 percent compared to the previous trading day, April 16.
