US import wire rod offers similar to position prices

US import wire rod offers for future arrival have remained stable this week at $28.00-$29.00 cwt. ($617-$639/mt or $560-$580/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports from Germany, and sources tell SteelOrbis that positions are available at US ports for around the same range.

According to the latest US steel import data, there have been 19,125 mt in wire rod import permits recorded so far in June (as of June 16) from Germany, compared to 8,077 mt in permits recorded for May. Sources report that if buyers are deciding between an on-the-ground purchase versus a future arrival order, importers are offering attractive deals to pare down inventory at the port.
