US wire rod imports up 25.1 percent in August

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of wire rod totaled 89,393 mt in August 2023, up 25.1 percent from July and up 27.3 percent from August 2022 levels. By value, wire rod imports totaled $85.7 million in August 2023, compared to $71.2 million in July and $86.5 million in August 2022.

The US imported the most wire rod from Canada in August, with 31,041 mt, compared to 26,752 mt in July and 25,522 mt in August 2022. Other top sources of imported wire rod in August include Japan, with 17,185 mt; Egypt, with 13,833 mt; Algeria, with 7,783 mt; and Brazil, with 7,181 mt.
