Trading activity still weak in Chinese domestic steel section market

Chinese domestic steel section prices have been characterized by fluctuations during the past week.

 

In the Shanghai market, the price of 50 mm x 50 mm x 5 m steel angles is now at $527/mt (RMB 3,640/mt). The same product is sold at $512/mt (RMB 3,480/mt) in the Tangshan market and at $574/mt (RMB 3,900/mt) in the Guangzhou market. Meanwhile, prices of 160 mm x 65 mm x 8.5 mm steel channels stand at $526/mt (RMB 3,580/mt) in the Shanghai market, at $490/mt (RMB 3,330/mt) in Tangshan and at $582/mt (RMB 3,960/mt) in the Guangzhou market. In the Shanghai, Tangshan and Guangzhou markets, 250 mm x 118 mm x 10 m I-beam prices stand respectively at $524/mt (RMB 3,560/mt), $494/mt (RMB 3,360/mt) and $590/mt (RMB 4,010/mt). As for billet, prices in the Chinese domestic market have risen slightly in the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,050/mt ($448/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,070/mt ($451/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,150/mt ($463/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 17 percent VAT.

 

Prices in the local Chinese steel section market have fluctuated in the past week, with increases seen in some regions amid higher billet prices and decreases seen in other regions due to increased supply. Overall trading activity is still weak due to adverse weather conditions. As for the coming week, it is believed that domestic steel section prices will continue to fluctuate, with slight increases in prices possible.
