Chinese domestic steel section prices have followed a slight downtrend during the past seven days.
As for billet, prices of the semi-finished steel product in the Chinese domestic market have moved down by small margins during the past week. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 mm x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 2,940/mt ($416/mt), the price of 165 mm x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 2,960/mt ($419/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,040/mt ($430/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 13 percent VAT.
Mainstream ex-China H-beam section steel offer prices from the ports of Shanghai or Tianjin stand at $477-522/mt FOB as of today, Monday, December 15, softening compared to December 8.
Overall trading activity in the domestic steel section market has remained slack during the past week, while prices have softened slightly following the minor downticks seen in prices of billet and other raw materials. However, low production volumes and low market inventory levels have provided some support for steel section prices. As for the week ahead, it is believed that steel section prices may indicate small fluctuations.
