SDI and Nucor drop merchant bar prices

In a letter to customers this week, both Steel Dynamics and Nucor decreased merchant bar prices by $3.00 cwt. ($60/nt or $66/mt), effective will all new shipments.

SDI cited the need to “meet current market price changes” as the reason behind the price decrease, while Nucor said the move is a “direct result of low priced imports and the subsequent unprecedented level of discounting occurring in the market.”

Both SDI and Nucor added that all current competitive allowances competitors’ (import or domestic) unpublished discounts or rebate programs will be immediately discontinued.
