Despite the economic difficulties, the lack of demand and unfavorable trend in the scrap segment have persisted this week, while the sole Romanian rebar supplier and traders have kept their domestic offers stable.
“As demand continues to be inadequately low to support the market, there have been no significant changes from the previous week,” a Romanian trader told SteelOrbis.
However, due to extremely slow business activities, several traders have decided to provide discounts while negotiating in order to attract the interest of buyers.
Accordingly, Romanian rebar retailers have maintained their previous weeks’ offers at €670-680/mt ex-warehouse. In the meantime, some traders have decided to sell more aggressively, at €650-660/mt ex-warehouse to attract buyers’ interest. Romania’s sole rebar producer has kept its domestic rebar offers at €650-660/mt ex-works.
In the wire rod segment, where no positive change in demand has been seen, many traders have reaffirmed their prices at around €675-680/mt ex-warehouse, with a few large traders still looking to sell at €690-700/mt ex-warehouse.
Meanwhile, Romanian importers have been reluctant to enter serious negotiations due to already excessive stocks and low domestic demand. The latest offers from Greece for rebar and wire rod for shipments in April have been set at €700-710/mt CFR and €720-730/mt CFR, down €20/mt over the past week.
