Romanian longs prices supported by tighter supply and higher costs, demand remains moderate

Romanian long steel prices have started to increase in the spot market following the Easter holiday period, with firmer fundamentals beginning to shape the market, as low stock levels and rising logistical and production costs continue to support the upward trend. Demand, meanwhile, has remained moderate, with activity described as limited but ongoing and neither particularly strong nor weak. Import offers have also maintained a firmer trend, while the combined effect of lower import quotas and CBAM-related costs is expected to weigh further on non-EU material and lend more support to intra-EU trade. At the same time, the sole Romanian rebar producer Beltrame Targoviste has remained largely quiet, with no clear price indications available, as market sources indicate that sales are still being concluded mainly from stocks.

As a result, Romanian rebar prices have moved higher to €620-635/mt ex-warehouse, up from €610-620/mt ex-warehouse in the previous week. A similar upward trend has been observed in the wire rod segment, where offer levels have increased to €640-650/mt ex-warehouse, from €620-630/mt ex-warehouse.

Meanwhile, on the producer's side, higher price ideas at €605-610/mt ex-works continue to circulate, although they have yet to gain firm confirmation.

In the import market, activity has remained limited over the past week, with no fresh bookings reported so far. Nevertheless, relatively low stock levels in the domestic market continue to support expectations of renewed purchasing interest in the coming period. Overall, offer levels have shown mixed movements week on week. A Bulgarian supplier has continued to indicate rebar at €630-640/mt CPT, while Greek suppliers have increased their offers to €660-665/mt CFR for rebar and €655-660/mt CFR for wire rod, up by €5-10/mt compared to the previous week. Meanwhile, among non-EU suppliers, an Egyptian mill has kept its April shipment offers unchanged at €560-565/mt CFR for rebar and €565-570/mt CFR for wire rod. In contrast, Turkish suppliers have reduced their rebar offers to €525-550/mt CFR, down from €540-555/mt previously, based on an exchange rate of €1 = $1.18 and estimated freight costs of €25-30/mt.
