This week, the Romanian long steel market has remained largely stable, following the price increases recorded in the previous week by both the domestic rebar producer and spot traders. After these adjustments, sellers have opted to hold prices unchanged, as the market has shown limited ability to absorb further increases. Demand has continued to remain weak, mainly due to ongoing liquidity constraints and unfavorable weather conditions, which have slowed construction activity. As a result, buyers have stayed cautious, purchasing only in line with needs and refraining from stock-building. Against this backdrop, with limited room for additional price hikes and clear buyer resistance at higher levels, long steel prices have remained stable over the past week, as the market awaits clearer demand signals.
In the rebar segment, the country’s sole producer has kept its offer levels unchanged at €600-610/mt ex-works, in line with the previous week. At the same time, traders’ rebar offers have also remained stable week on week at €590-615/mt ex-warehouse, reflecting the lack of fresh buying momentum.
Similarly, the wire rod market has continued to show price stability, with traders’ offers reported at €585-600/mt ex-warehouse, unchanged from last week, as both buyers and sellers maintain a wait-and-see stance amid subdued demand conditions.
On the import side, activity from Romania has remained limited, as buyers have largely stayed on the sidelines, monitoring price developments rather than actively placing orders. As a result, import offers have mostly remained stable over the past week across both EU and non-EU origins. According to sources, a Bulgarian supplier has kept rebar offers unchanged at €615-620/mt CPT. Similarly, Greek suppliers have continued to quote rebar at €585-590/mt CFR and wire rod at €595-620/mt CFR to Romania. In addition, rebar offers from Hungary have been heard this week at €625-630/mt CPT, while Italian origin rebar has been offered at around €600/mt CPT. Among non-EU suppliers, Egypt has kept its offers unchanged, with rebar still quoted at €490-495/mt CFR and wire rod at €495-500/mt CFR, in line with the previous week. By contrast, Turkish suppliers have slightly lowered their quotations amid weaker trading activity, reducing offers by around €5-10/mt to €490-510/mt CFR. These levels are based on an exchange rate of €1 = $1.17 and estimated freight costs of €15-20/mt.
