Following last week’s upward correction, Romanian long steel prices have remained stable in the spot market, while the broader market outlook continues to point to further upside, supported by ongoing supply tightness and persistently elevated production and logistical costs. Demand conditions, meanwhile, have remained relatively firm, with activity continuing at a moderate yet consistent pace despite liquidity constraints, contributing to a more balanced market environment. Overall, the current stability is widely viewed by market participants as a temporary consolidation phase, with expectations of additional price increases continuing to build in the near term.
Accordingly, rebar prices in Romania have been held at €620-635/mt ex-warehouse, while wire rod prices have remained stable at €640-650/mt ex-warehouse, with some market participants testing levels above the current range by around $10-15/mt.
Meanwhile, the domestic rebar producer Beltrame Targoviste has remained largely silent, with no fresh price indications heard in the market. At the same time, some market participants report that certain previously booked volumes at lower price levels have been cancelled, with deliveries reportedly not fulfilled, adding to uncertainty on the supply side.
In the import segment, a more active tone has been observed, with market participants pointing to growing interest and emerging buying activity. In particular, a transaction has been reported for around 15,000-20,000 mt of rebar sold by Turkish suppliers at approximately $600/mt FOB to the Balkan region, though the exact destination remains unclear. At the same time, Turkish suppliers have revised their rebar offers slightly upward to €535-550/mt CFR, compared to €525-550/mt CFR previously, based on an exchange rate of €1 = $1.17 and estimated freight costs of €25-30/mt. Egyptian mills, on the other hand, have not been active in the market this week, with no fresh offers heard so far, though new price indications are expected to be announced in the coming days. Previously, April shipment offers from Egypt were reported at €560-565/mt CFR for rebar and €565-570/mt CFR for wire rod. Meanwhile, Bulgarian suppliers have increased their rebar offers to €645-660/mt CPT, up from €630-640/mt CPT last week. In contrast, Greek suppliers have kept their offers largely unchanged week on week, at €660-665/mt CFR for rebar and €655-660/mt CFR for wire rod.
