Due to the absence of any firm signs of positive changes in the steel industry and with a great deal of scepticism seen as regards the future market prospects, Iranian steelmakers have decided to search for buyers now in order to secure themselves from lower prices. Accordingly, at the beginning of the current week, a few Iranian steelmakers have announced their intention to sell steel billet and steel slab within the scope of export tenders. Accordingly, Sirjan Jahan Steel Complex (SJSCO) is reported to have floated an export tender for 30,000 mt of billet. The material is destined to be delivered in the second half of September. The deadline for bids is Tuesday, July 26. Another steel mill, Khorasan Steel Complex, has opened a tender for 25,000 mt of steel billet, with delivery in the first half of September in case of a 5SP steel billet booking, and at the end of September in the case of a deal for 3SP billet. The deadline for bids is August 1. Meanwhile, Mobarakeh Steel Company is collecting bids within the scope of its auction of 20,000-30,000 mt of steel slab, with delivery at the end of September. The deadline of the tender is Tuesday, July 26.
It is worth mentioning that the latest SteelOrbis assessment for steel billet was at $460-470/mt FOB.
