Chinese domestic steel section market edges up slightly

The Chinese domestic steel section market has moved on a slight uptrend during the past week.

 

In the Shanghai market, the price of 50 mm x 50 mm x 5 m steel angles is now at $541/mt (RMB 3,690/mt). The same product is sold at $521/mt (RMB 3,550/mt) in the Tangshan market and at $584/mt (RMB 3,980/mt) in the Guangzhou market. Meanwhile, prices of 160 mm x 65 mm x 8.5 mm steel channels stand at $532/mt (RMB 3,630/mt) in the Shanghai market, at $509/mt (RMB 3,470/mt) in Tangshan and at $592/mt (RMB 4,040/mt) in the Guangzhou market. In the Shanghai, Tangshan and Guangzhou markets, 250 mm x 118 mm x 10 m I-beam prices stand respectively at $531/mt (RMB 3,620/mt), $510/mt (RMB 3,480/mt) and $597/mt (RMB 4,070/mt). As for billet, prices in the Chinese domestic market have increased in the past seven days. In Tangshan, the current price of Q235 150 x 150 mm square billet is at RMB 3,160/mt ($463/mt), the price of 165 x 225 mm rectangular billet stands at RMB 3,180/mt ($466/mt), while the price of 20MnSi billet is at around RMB 3,260/mt ($478/mt). The prices are all ex-mill, including 17 percent VAT.

The local Chinese steel section market has fluctuated on a slight uptrend during the past week, supported by higher prices of billet and steel futures and also by lower inventories of steel sections. However, it is believed that the upward movement of steel section prices has resulted in slower downstream demand. It is thought that the domestic steel section market will indicate a fluctuating trend in the week ahead.
