Due to higher domestic scrap and hot rolled coil (HRC) prices, offers for coated steel have increased by $20-40/mt over the past two weeks in Turkey. Demand has weakened after the latest price rise, but re-rollers refuse to provide discounts for now due to strong market fundamentals. "We have to follow raw material prices as always and they are really strong at the moment. The delivery time is now November-December for coated steel. That means our orders are also at a good level. We believe strongly that prices will continue to increase for coated materials, because we have not applied all price increases in HRC to our prices yet," a producer told SteelOrbis. A few producers have not announced their new levels yet and prices may increase further.
On the export side, demand has been recovering slowly since the markets have started to open up after a long break and buyers feel more safe with imported materials now because there are no restrictions despite the higher infection numbers especially in the EU. Prices have also increased in export offers by $30/mt. Exporters also mention that higher HRC prices in the EU also support price increases for imported materials in the region.
