Hot dip galvanized (HDG) demand in the Turkish domestic market has remained weak, while steel mills are struggling to fill their order books, though some transactions have been concluded. Meanwhile, in the international coated flat steel markets, where Turkey is aiming to play an active role, against the ongoing Chinese domination with chepaer offers and local producers' efforts to take control of their own domestic markets have dragged HDG demand down in Turkey's key export markets.
On the other hand, low local demand is also posing difficulties for Turkish steel mills. Even though mills have not yet revised their list prices downwards, discounts on list prices of up to $10-15/mt are still available for real buyers.
In the Turkish domestic market sales prices for HDG are as follows:
Product | Price ($/mt) |
HDG 0.50 mm 100gr/m² | 790-800 |
HDG 1 mm 100gr/m² | 760-770 |
HDG 2 mm 100gr/m² | 740-760 |
The above prices, which may differ depending on product quality, are ex-works, exclude VAT, and are for advance payments.
On the export side, Turkish export offers for 0.50 mm 100gr/m² zinc coated HDG coils to certain Middle Eastern markets are still standing at $810-820/mt ex-works for October production.
