Difficult for local mills to ignore discount requests in Turkish HDG market

Hot dip galvanized (HDG) demand in the Turkish domestic market has remained weak, while prices have moved down by $10/mt as compared to last week. Despite the recent downward price revision, there are still discounts of up to $10-20/mt available in the market. Meanwhile, Turkish steel mills are aware that prices have hit bottom, but amid such low demand it is hard to ignore buyers' requests for discounts, as indicated by the mills.

As for Turkey's HDG export markets, demand has shown some improvements and the last high volume loadings have been taking place in the market to certain regions before the winter.

In the Turkish domestic market, sales prices for HDG are as follows:

Product

Price ($/mt)

HDG   0.50 mm  100gr/m²

780-790

HDG   1 mm  100gr/m²

750-760

HDG   2 mm  100gr/m²

730-750

The above prices, which may differ depending on product quality, are ex-works, exclude VAT, and are for advance payments.

Turkish export offers for 0.50 mm 100gr/m² zinc coated HDG coils to certain Middle Eastern and CIS markets are now standing at $800-805/mt ex-works for October and November production, indicating a decline of $10-15/mt since last week.
