Reference price for Brazilian slab exports unchanged from last week

The Brazilian producers continue to negotiate slab exports at $540/mt, the same as last week, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades.

This price remains in a range of $530/mt to $540/mt since August 5, 2024.

After confirmation from ArcelorMittal, the company exported 2.25 million mt of slabs from its Pecem plant in 2024, instead of 600,000 mt as previously indicated by the foreign trade statistics authority, COMEX. The official number of slabs exports from Brazil in 2024 is now 7.17 million mt instead of 5.52 million mt as previously indicated.

Preliminary numbers show exports of slabs from Brazil in January reaching around 450,000 mt.
