Reference price for Brazilian slab exports stable in the week

The Brazilian producers are now negotiating slab exports at $535/mt, unchanged during the week, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades.

Such price remains in a range of $530/mt to $540/mt since August 5, 2024.

In January, Brazil exported 586,900 mt of slabs, at an average of $580/mt, against 454,000 mt at $564/mt in December 2024.

In January, ArcelorMittal Tubarão exported 40,800 mt of slabs at $525/mt to Canada and 184,000 mt at $536/mt to the US, Ternium exported 342,200 mt at $613/mt to the US, and Gerdau exported 19,900 mt at $520/mt to the UK.

Meanwhile in January, Usiminas imported 25,700 mt of slabs at $464/mt from Japan, a volume that was stockpiled in the port while the company was waiting for a favorable USD/BRL rate to clear customs.

The port of Pecem, where ArcelorMittal Pecem exports slabs, has not registered January exports from the company, certainly not correct information, which happened during a few months in 2024.

According to the numbers from the company, in 2024, Pecem exported an average of 190,000 mt of slabs per month.
