Despite low demand in the Turkish steel plate market, prices have continued to increase for import materials since last week. Moreover, local plate prices are also expected to rise. "There is still a lack of projects and low consumption in the country, but flat steel prices are on the rise. HRC prices have hit $940-950/mt in the highest offers in Turkey, while plate prices are also strong in the EU. It is expected that the local producer [in Turkey] will announce its new prices with a minimum $20/mt increase," a trader told SteelOrbis.
As a result, Erdemir is expected to announce new prices for July production this week. Its latest price levels have been heard in the market at $860-880/mt ex-works for S235JR quality and at $890-910/mt ex-works for S355 JR quality plates for June production.
In the import segment, Bulgaria’s Stomana Industry S.A is offering its limited allocation for June production at $870-880/mt CFR for S235JR grade and at $910-920/mt CFR for S355JR grade, up $10/mt over the past week. Romania is in the market with $860-870/mt CFR for S235JR grade material for May rolling, up $10/mt over the past week. Offers from Metinvest have been heard in the market at $815-830/mt CFR for May production, unchanged week on week.
In the shipbuilding plate segment, Macedonia-based Makstil is offering at €780/mt CFR for S235JR quality and at €810/mt CFR for S355JR quality, for June deliveries, increasing by €50/mt over the past week, as SteelOrbis learned.
