Coated steel prices in Turkey have decreased by $10-30/mt over the past week since the re-rollers’ price hikes have not been supported by demand. "Buyers have exerted pressure and prices have been corrected down during negotiations. Demand is sluggish both in the local and export markets, so we had to revise our prices to continue our sales," a re-roller told SteelOrbis. However, the sellers believe that additional discounts are not possible since scrap price levels are strong. On the other hand, hot rolled coils may become even more expensive, which will automatically increase coated steel production costs.
Demand has remained weak in the export market because of the summer period and the impact of Covid-19. The expectations are not yet positive for September-October because some countries have started to witness a second wave of Covid-19 and this may result in new restrictions. As a result, buyers are cautious towards imports.
