A source linked to a Brazilian slab producer told SteelOrbis that the company has closed an export deal at $710/mt, FOB conditions, the first deal under a new round of prices, framed by a minimum of $700/mt to non-US destinations and $730/mt to the US.

According to the source, such sale refers to a significant volume and is not destined to the US, most likely to Europe, with shipment scheduled for April. The source added that the company has no immediate plans to negotiate with its US clients, and that during next week the negotiations will be focused on the Brazilian domestic market.

In January, Brazil exported 582,100 mt of slab, in average at $757/mt, FOB conditions. Preliminary numbers are pointing to a similar volume being exported in February.
