Coated steel prices have continued to increase in Turkey. End-user demand has been sufficient, which has contributed to a $20/mt rise in re-rollers’ offers. In addition, import scrap prices have been firming up. Producers are happy about business activity and they are currently offering for December-January production, while some are even in the market to export for February. "Stocks were really low in the market and end-user demand has improved. Higher export and lower supply has supported the price increases and we think buyers will accept the new levels quickly," a producer told SteelOrbis.
On the export side, prices have increased accordingly and buyers seem to be ready to buy their needs for the first quarter of 2021. In particular, European buyers have accelerated their orders, fearing a new wave of lockdowns in the region. The numbers of Covid-19 infections in the region is increasing rapidly and many restrictions are on the way, according to market players. There is no sign of a general lockdown yet in the EU, but measures in individual states are considered possible. EU governments are mostly determined to keep schools and factories open during the second wave and they are not eager to take extreme measures similar to the ones taken in the first half of this year, SteelOrbis understands.
