AK Steel joins US flats mills in price increase

AK Steel said late Thursday that it will increase current spot market base prices for all carbon flat-rolled steel products by a minimum of $1.50 cwt. ($30/nt or $33/mt), effective immediately with new orders.

The announcement follows a similar increase this week by Nucor, NLMK USA and AMUSA.

As of this week, current pricing for flat rolled steel is as follows:

HRC: $30-$31 cwt. ($661-$683/mt or $600-$620/nt)
CRC: $38-$40 cwt. ($838-$882/,mt or $760-$800/nt)
Base price HDG: $37-$38 ($816-$838/mt or $740-$760/nt)
