India raised production and exports in April
The recent figures by the Indian government show that exports of the country in April rose 44% to 293'000 tons over the April 2002 figures. In parallel to the 11% higher output of finished steel at 2.71 million tons, India sold higher quantities of steel products abroad. Hot rolled plate production rose by 28.4% to 163'000 tons, and 32'000 tons of this production was exported. India did not export this product last year. India also raised production of hot rolled coils by 26.4% to 680'000 tons and exported 82'000 tons. Furthermore 96'000 tons of galvanized products, 27'000 tons of cold rolled sheets, and 43'000 tons of bars and rods were exported. Meanwhile the production of structural steel increased by 23% to 251'000 tons, cold rolled sheets by 10.5% to 388'000t, hot rolled sheets by 4.4% to 47'000 tons and galvanized steel by 3.4% to 211'000t. On the other hand output of bars and rods declined 0.6% to 838'000t.
