West-Siberian Steel Works (ZapSib), a subsidiary of the Russian steel and iron ore producer Evraz Group, has started up its blast furnace (BF) No. 1 upon the completion of scheduled reconstruction works.

The reconstruction of the BF No. 1, which was completed in 106 days, will allow ZapSib to substantially increase its pig iron production capacity and to reduce the amounts of coke and energy used per metric ton of pig iron produced.

The scheduled reconstruction of the BF No. 1 took place within the scope of ZapSib's modernization program.
