Australian coal producer Xstrata has announced its production results for the first half of 2012. Accordingly, Xstrata's total consolidated coal production in the given period increased by 12 percent year on year to 43.4 million mt, as a result of increased thermal coal volumes across every division compared to the same period in 2011.

In the first half of the current year, Xstrata's total coking coal output from its Australian operations rose 6.4 percent to 3.3 million mt, while production from its South African thermal coal operations increased by 12 percent to 9.4 million mt, both on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, Xstrata's total refined nickel production in the first six months of 2012 increased to 52,783 mt, up 2.6 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, as a result of strong mining performances at the Sudbury and Raglan mines and at the Falcondo ferronickel operations.
