According to Henan Province-based Chinese steel producer Wuyang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd (Wuyang Steel), a subsidiary of Chinese steel giant Hebei Iron and Steel Group, in early December Wuyang Steel successfully trial-produced ultra-thick steel plates of 177.8 mm thickness for application in offshore drilling platforms.

There are only a few mills in China which are able to produce these products.

Wuyang Steel has already developed A514 GrQ and A517 GrQ steel grades for marine engineering applications.
