WTO approves US duties on certain flat products imported from Japan
World Trade Organization (WTO) Appellate Body has recently announced that it confirms US sunset review of the anti-dumping duties on imports of certain corrosion-resistant carbon steel flat products from
Japan.
The case was commenced, upon
Japan's objection to 36.41% US duty initiated in November 2000 on the imports of subject merchandise from
Japan and the initiation of a sunset review for the duties implemented afterwards.
WTO Appellate Body's decision regarding the issue was different in the original Panel report, dated on August 14, 2003. Although WTO Appellate Body's claims concerning the duties that were implemented on imports of above cited product from
Japan differed from the original report, both Panel and the Appellate Body approved that US did not act inconsistently with the anti-dumping policies or the WTO Agreement, in the issue of imports from
Japan.
