World pig iron output up two percent in January-September

In the January-September period of this year, world pig iron production amounted to 894.76 million mt, rising by 2.07 percent compared to the same period of 2013, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
 
In the given period, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 691.3 million mt, up 2.2 percent, with 542.37 million mt produced by China, up 1.1 percent, 62.81 million mt produced by Japan, remaining stable, and 40.43 million mt produced by India, up 7.5 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. In the same period, EU countries produced 71.84 million mt of pig iron, up 3.8 percent, while the CIS produced 61.56 million mt, remaining unchanged, both on year-on-year basis.
 
Meanwhile, in September this year global pig iron production amounted to 98.44 million metric tons, decreasing by 2.43 percent compared to August, but up 1.7 percent on year-on-year basis.

In September alone, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 75.76 million mt, up 1.5 percent, with 58.89 million mt produced by China, down 0.3 percent, 7.06 million mt produced by Japan, up 1.8 percent, and 4.59 million mt produced by India, up 10.8 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month EU countries produced 7.87 million mt of pig iron, up 1.6 percent and the CIS produced 6.76 million mt, remaining unchanged, both on year-on-year basis.
