World pig iron output up 5.38 percent in February

In February this year, world pig iron production amounted to 96.78 million mt, increasing by 5.38 percent compared to the same month of 2014 and decreasing by 1.18 percent compared to the previous month, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
 
In the given month, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 76.38 million mt, up 8.54 percent, with 60.7 million mt produced by China, increasing by 9.58 percent, 6.38 million mt produced by Japan, up 2.55 percent, and 4.47 million mt produced by India, increasing by 6.96 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same period, EU countries produced 7.65 million mt of pig iron, up 0.43 percent, while the CIS produced 5.69 million mt, down 10.34 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
