In June this year, world pig iron production amounted to 104.68 million mt, decreasing by 1.7 percent from May this year and rising by 3.8 percent compared to the same month of last year, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, as announced by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the first half of this year, world pig iron production totaled 608.26 million mt, up by 1.8 percent compared to the same period last year.
In June, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 83.4 million mt, up four percent, with 65.88 million mt produced by China, up 3.8 percent, 6.35 million mt produced by Japan, increasing by 1.6 percent, and 5.89 million mt produced by India, rising by 13.1 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.77 million mt of pig iron, up 1.1 percent, while the CIS produced 6.27 million mt, increasing by 6.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
