World pig iron output up 5.81 percent in 2013

In 2013, world pig iron production amounted to 1.16 billion mt, rising by 5.81 percent compared to 2012, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
 
Meanwhile, last December global pig iron production amounted to 93.96 million metric tons, increasing by 7.69 percent compared to December 2012 and up 3.57 percent compared to November.

In 2013, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 897.30 million mt, up 7.92 percent, with 708.97 million mt produced by China, up 8.36 percent, 83.85 million mt produced by Japan, up three percent, and 50.26 million mt produced by India, up 18.93 percent - all compared to 2012. Meanwhile, in the same year EU countries produced 92.53 million mt of pig iron, while the CIS produced 81.99 million mt of pig iron, with increases of 1.41 percent and 0.21 percent respectively, year on year.

In December, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 71.13 million mt, up 8.35 percent, with 54.72 million mt produced by China, up 7.52 percent, 7.04 million mt produced by Japan, up 5.03 percent, and 4.37 million mt produced by India, up 23.77 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month EU countries produced 7.94 million mt of pig iron, while the CIS produced 6.99 million mt of pig iron, with increases of 17 percent and 4.78 percent respectively, year on year.
