In August this year, world pig iron production amounted to 96.8 million mt, decreasing by a slight margin of 0.04 percent compared to July and declining by 3.7 percent compared to the same month of 2014, according to the preliminary data covering 38 countries accounting for approximately 99 percent of total world blast furnace pig iron production, released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year, world pig iron production totaled 784.67 million mt, down 1.6 percent compared to the same period of 2014.
In August, pig iron output in Asia amounted to 74.77 million mt, down 4.4 percent, with 57.6 million mt produced by China, decreasing by 5.1 percent, 6.91 million mt produced by Japan, down six percent, and 4.87 million mt produced by India, increasing by 1.3 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the same month, EU countries produced 7.62 million mt of pig iron, down 3.8 percent, while the CIS produced 6.43 million mt, up 3.1 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
