Weirton Steel is hopeful about future of US steel industry

Market sources report that, US' fifth largest integrated steel mill Weirton Steel previously stated that the lifting of steel tariffs that were imposed by Bush would affect Weirton Steel negatively. However, the company announced today that the rescission of the tariffs will not have a negative impact on Weirton Steel. An official from Weirton, underscoring the necessity of safeguard measures in protecting domestic industry from surging imports, expressed the company's disappointment with the decision of Bush regarding lifting of safeguard measures. The safeguard measures cover imports of various steel products, however tin producer Weirton Steel will not be injured from import of tin mill products (TMP) from Japan as the anti-dumping duty on the imports of TMP from Japan still keeps its level of 95%. The case was sued upon the complaint submitted by Weirton Steel to US Department of Commerce (DOC) and US International Trade Commission (ITC).
