Venezuela eyes pellet, iron ore and HBI exports by 2020

Thursday, 25 July 2019 20:40:06 (GMT+3)   |   Sao Paulo

Venezuela’s economy minister, Tareck El Aissami, said the country expects to export pellets, iron ore and HBI through CVG Ferrominera Orinoco (Ferrominera) by 2020.

Aissami also said the construction of a second pellet line at state-run iron ore producer Ferrominera is now 75 percent complete. When completed, the plant will produce 3 million mt/year of pellets.

State-run steelmaker Sidor has recently inaugurated a pellet plant, also known as the B pellet line, which has a capacity of 18,000 mt/day. Sidor has not produced steel thus far in 2019.

The nation’s industrial sector has faced a steep crisis due to the country’s economic and political woes in recent years.
