Brazilian miner Vale will reinforce six dikes at its Caue mine in Itabira city, Minas Gerais state, in 2020, according to a media report from G1. The Caue mine has an extensive dam complex with a 220 million cubic-meter capacity.

Citing government data, the media report said Vale has yet to perform the reinforcing works, as the project is still in a proposal phase. Vale is expected to reinforce six dikes in the dam complex, including the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 dikes, as well as the Nova Vista and the Minervino structures.

Minas Gerais officials said the structures receiving the reinforcing works have 10 times more the dam capacity of the Corrego do Feijão mine, which burst in Brumadinho in January this year, killing over 250 people.
