Brazilian miner and iron ore producer Vale halted works at its Itabiruçu dam in the city of Itabira, in Minas Gerais state, according to media reports.
The company said it halted works as a precautionary measure following a request from the project’s designer. Despite the halt in the dam works, Vale said the structure’s safety and stability indexes were not affected. Vale said it notified local authorities.
The dam was built using the upstream method, which is considered by the industry as safer compared to the failing Brumadinho dams.
