Vale adopts new equipment for iron ore analysis

Brazilian miner Vale has approved the SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer for the on-line measurement of the iron ore quality in its ports and mines.

The equipment measures in a continuous manner the composition of the ore at key points of the mining production chain, usually on a conveyor belt, indicating even small deviations in the humidity, iron contents and other parameters of the ore composition.

According to SpectraFlow, the real-time measurement allows for decisions based on the quality of the iron ore and its effective price.

The company added that the equipment reduces the need for interruptions of operations for the manual collection of iron ore samples. Instead, it supplies a wide amount of data, allowing for the separation in advance of the ore in different piles, and for the correct blending of the final products.
