Brazilian steelmaker Usiminas said this week it has resumed Friday work shifts at its HQ in the city of Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais.
According to the company, operations at its HQ were resumed because of a legal deadline, which prevented the company to cut work shifts on Fridays for more than three months. The company’s HQ has about 500 employees.
The company said it doesn’t expect to apply other reduced shifts at its main office.
In July this year, the company halted Friday operations at its HQ in Belo Horizonte, as a way to cut costs.
Late in September, the company also announced it would idle a 1 million mt heavy plate rolling mill at in Cubatao, Sao Paulo, the company told SteelOrbis. The adoption of such a measure aims to adjust its production to the current weak demand the local steel sector faces.
