Usiminas expected to raise flat steel prices on Jan 19

Brazilian flats steelmaker Usiminas declined on Tuesday to confirm whether it will increase flat steel prices for its distributor chain, after a media report this week said the steelmaker plans to increase prices for all its flat steel products by 13 percent, effective on January 19.

Recently, Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) told SteelOrbis it increased the price of the steel it sells to automakers by 23 percent and by 18-23 percent for the industrial sector. No further details were disclosed at the time.

Additionally, CSN raised distributor steel prices by 12 percent at the time, according to a media report from Estadao.
