US weekly raw steel production falls for second consecutive week

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that US raw steel production fell 0.3 percent in the week ending June 1, following a 2.8 percent decrease a week ago.

Total raw steel production in the United States was 1,844,000 net tons (nt) last week, representing a 0.3 percent decrease from the 1,850,000 nt produced in the previous week and a 5.6 percent drop from the 1,954,000 nt produced during the same week a year ago.

The capacity utilization rate of US raw steelmaking facilities was 77.0 percent in the week ending June 1, compared to 77.2 percent in the previous week and 78.6 percent in the same week last year.
