US Steel today announced it will restart the No. 2 Welded Pipe Mill that was idled last year at the company’s Lone Star Tubular Operations in Texas. The company said the opening is due to an improvement in the oil industry and overall national economy.

In the company’s Q1 results, released yesterday, the company said the increase in the US rig count is related to onshore activity which will primarily benefit US Steel’s Fairfield (Alabama) seamless and Lone Star welded operations.

A spokesperson for the company said production is expected to resume in May, and 200 employees will be recalled. When the facility was idled in March 2016, 450 employees were laid off.
