US Steel President and Chief Executive Officer David B. Burritt announced today that Douglas R. Matthews, senior vice president of Industrial, Service Center and Mining Solutions, will assume day-to-day responsibilities for the company's Tubular organization on an interim basis following the recently announced retirement of David J. Rintoul, senior vice president of Tubular Business, on February 28, 2018.

Commenting on the appointment, Burritt said, “Doug is the best choice to fill this interim role based on his extensive overall industry experience and prior tenure as head of our tubular products organization. His strong leadership will ensure a smooth transition for US Steel Tubular Products employees and customers.”

Matthews joined US Steel in 1988 as a management associate at Mon Valley Works’ Edgar Thomson plant.  Since then, he has advanced through increasingly responsible roles at Mon Valley Works, PRO-TEC Coating Company, Gary Works, corporate headquarters, and the former USS/KOBE steelmaking venture in Lorain, Ohio, before being appointed vice president and general director of the former US Steel Serbia in 2006.  He went on to become president and general manager of US Steel Canada in 2007, before being named vice president of Tubular Operations and president of US Steel Tubular Products in 2009.  He advanced to senior vice president of North American flat rolled operations in 2013, and assumed his current role in 2016.
