US steel mill shipments up 1.9 percent in October

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of October 2019, US steel mills shipped 7,914,276 net tons, a 1.9 percent increase from the 7,767,310 net tons shipped in the previous month, September 2019, and a 3.2 percent decrease from the 8,174,754 net tons shipped in October 2018. 

Shipments year-to-date in 2019 are 80,492,022 net tons, a 1.1 percent increase vs. 2018 shipments of 79,643,381 net tons for ten months.

A comparison of October shipments to the previous month of September shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 3 percent; cold rolled sheets, up 2 percent; and hot rolled sheets, no change.
